Alice Elisabeth Weidel (born 6 February 1979 in Gütersloh) is a German politician and management consultant. Together with Alexander Gauland she is the lead 2017 general election candidate for Alternative für Deutschland (AfD).
Weidel studied business administration at the University of Bayreuth and was awarded a PhD in 2011. She worked for Goldman Sachs and Allianz Global Investors Europe as well as six years in China. Weidel joined the AfD in 2013 and was elected into the executive committee in 2015.
In April 2017, Weidel rallied against political correctness. In response, on 27 April, the TV satire program extra 3 called Weidel a "Nazi bitch" or a "Nazi slut" (German: Nazi-Schlampe). Weidel sued seeking to forbid re-airing of the program, and on 17 May the Hamburg District Court ruled against her, stating that a public figure must stand against exaggerated criticism. Weidel disagreed with the decision and promised to bring it to the Oberlandesgericht (Higher Regional Court).
Weidel is in a relationship with a female Swiss film producer and has a second residence with her in Biel, Switzerland.
