K.T. Balasubramaniem (born August 18, 1966) is a well-known cinematographer from Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu who completed schooling and college in Thirupattur. Under the tutelage of P.C. Sreeram for nearly 5 years, he worked in award-winning films such as Thevar Magan, Thiruda Thiruda and Kuruthipunal . He was the director of photography in the home production Ladies Only (Magalir Mattum in Tamil). He is noticed for the cinematography in his debut film, Iraniyan, a historical film set in the Pre-Independence era. Later, his work in director Bala's award-winning film Pithamagan earned him high praise and much critical acclaim. Noted for his masterful lighting techniques, he won accolades and fame for the flamboyant visuals in the recent film 180.

He was born in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, where he did his early schooling. He later moved to Thirupattur, near Karaikudi, where he completed his schooling and did his college. He studied B.Sc.Physics in APSA college, Trippattur. He is married to Television newsreader E. Mala. He has two sons, namely - Kavin and Karun.

Balasubramaniem started his career by assisting noted cinematographer P.C. Sreeram for nearly 5 years, in award-winning films like Thevar Magan (1992), Thiruda Thiruda (1993) and Kuruthipunal (1995). Finally he made his independent debut as Director of Photography (DOP) with Kamal Hassan's Hindi version of Magalir Mattum titled Ladies only which was not released and later received acclaim for historical film, Vaatakudi Eranian. He did many films afterwards the prominent ones being Pithamagan, M Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi, Thambi, Azhagiya Thamizh Magan and 180.
