Demographics of United Arab Emirates

Population growth in the United Arab Emirates is among the highest in world at a current 2.47% for the year of 2016. Immigration is the heaviest factor contributing to this growth. Expatriate workers in the UAE made up 90% of the country's workforce in 2013 and accounted for 7.8 million individuals out of a population of 9.2 million people . UAE's census data noted a seven-fold increase in its population between 1975 and 2005.

The UAE National Bureau of Statistics does not publish demographic data in relation to any nationality. The following figures listed in the table below are estimates provided by each country's embassy.

Arabic is the official and national language of the UAE. The Gulf dialect of Arabic is spoken by the Emirati people which differs in accents from other Arab/ Middle Eastern countries The Larestani language (Persian dialect) is also spoken by a number of Emiratis. Apart from Arabic, English is widely used as a second language. Other languages spoken in the UAE, due to immigration, include Malayalam, Urdu, Hindi, Persian, Cebuano, Pashto, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Baluchi (Southern Baluchi), Russian, Somali, Tagalog, Nepali, Mandarin, Telugu and Spanish.
