Drakesboro is a 5th-class city in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 627 at the 2000 census. Incorporated in 1888, the city was named for early pioneer William Drake.

Drakesboro is located at 37°13′2″N 87°3′1″W / 37.21722°N 87.05028°W / 37.21722; -87.05028 (37.217274, -87.050169).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2), all land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 627 people, 247 households, and 171 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,296.1 people per square mile (504.3/km²). There were 281 housing units at an average density of 580.9 per square mile (226.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 89.47% White, 9.73% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.16% Asian, and 0.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.48% of the population.

There were 247 households out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% were married couples living together, 18.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.09.
