European Parliament elections are currently due to be held in the United Kingdom and Gibraltar in 2019 as part of the 2019 European Parliamentary Elections. However, in June 2016, a referendum on United Kingdom membership of the European Union resulted in a vote in favour of the UK leaving the European Union. In October 2016, the Prime Minister Theresa May announced that she would trigger Article 50 by March 2017. As a country takes two years to leave the EU after triggering Article 50, this means that the UK will probably cease to be a member of the European Union prior to the planned date in 2019, and the elections would then not occur.

As has been the case since 1999, the electoral constituencies are based on the government's nine English regions, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, creating a total of 12 constituencies. The seat allocation has been the same since 2008:

1 Includes Gibraltar, the only British overseas territory which is part of the European Union.
