Flag of Boston

The Boston city flag consists of a sky blue field and the seal of the city of Boston in the center. The flag is sometimes flown in a darker shade of blue, more of a turquoise.

The flag was proposed by the Columbus Day Committee in 1913, but it was not adopted until 1917.

The proportions of the flag are 7:10.

The code specifies that the flag is to be flown at City Hall and at the Common. It is also flown at private locations throughout the city, as most cities fly their flags more frequently than, say, a smaller town.

The flag placed 133 in a survey of 150 city flags based on appearance.

The Latin words contained within the "Boston city flag" are the Latin words: Sicut Patribus Sit Deus Nobis. The meaning of Boston's Motto is "As to our fathers may God be to us."
