Gene October

Gene October (real name John O'Hara) is a former formative figure in London's punk rock music scene of the 1970s, and amateur British pop musician.

He was the singer/frontman of the original mid 1970's London punk rock band Chelsea, with Billy Idol on guitar and Tony James on bass, but the line-up broke up after a few weeks of performing together. The band's repertoire during this period consisted primarily of Beatles and Rolling Stones cover-songs.

October was instrumental in the creation of the punk venue The Roxy, persuading the manager of gay London nightclub, 'Shageramas', to convert the club to cater for a punk clientele. He briefly managed a club called Revolution No.9, and subsequently was employed as an A&R man for Miles Copeland III's IRS record label.

October also acted in two films by Derek Jarman. In Jubilee he played the character Happy Days, and in Caravaggio he appeared as a fruit-eating model.

In 2016 October took re-joined Chelsea as its frontman/singer for a 40th Anniversary tour.
