Houston Dynamo

The star on the crest is an ad hoc adoption, likely a nod to Texas as it was its own nation.

The Houston Dynamo is an American professional soccer club based in Houston, Texas. The franchise competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), as a member of the Western Conference. The Dynamo first played their home games at Robertson Stadium on the University of Houston campus until moving to their home stadium, BBVA Compass Stadium, during the 2012 season.

The Dynamo was established on December 15, 2005 when the then owner of the San Jose Earthquakes, Anschutz Entertainment Group, announced that the team was relocating to Houston, Texas after failed attempts in securing a soccer specific stadium in San Jose. The club would then be an expansion team of the league, which began play in 2006. Houston Dynamo won the 2006 and 2007 MLS Cups being in their first two seasons. In 2008, Houston became the first Major League Soccer club to secure a point on Mexican soil in the CONCACAF Champions League era.

The Dynamo is owned by Gabriel Brener, Jake Silverstein, Ben Guill, and world Olympic boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya. The team's head coach is Wilmer Cabrera.

Professional soccer in Houston began with the Houston Stars, who played at the Astrodome from 1967-68 in the United Soccer Association during their first year and the North American Soccer League during their second and final season. Houston returned to the professional soccer scene with two clubs, both operating from 1978-80: the Houston Hurricane (NASL), and the Houston Summit (Major Indoor Soccer League).
