Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council is a local authority that was established on 1 April 2015. It replaced Lisburn City Council and Castlereagh Borough Council. The first elections to the authority were on 22 May 2014 and it acted as a shadow authority, prior to the creation of the Lisburn and Castlereagh district on 1 April 2015.

For the purpose of elections the council is divided into seven district electoral areas (DEA):

Councillors John and Jenny Palmer defected from the DUP to the UUP on 2 September 2015.

Johnny McCarthy left NI21 to sit as an Independent. In February 2016 he changed his party affiliation and joined the SDLP.

In January 2017 Councillors Vasundhara Kamble and Geraldine Rice left the Alliance Party to sit as Independents.

The area covered by the new Council has a population of 134,841 residents according to the 2011 Northern Ireland census.
