Loot Drop is a social video game studio based in San Mateo, California. It was created by John Romero and Tom Hall with its COO being Brenda Romero. Its tagline is "Believe in fun".
The studio got funding from social game publisher RockYou in 2011. At that time, it had four titles in development. Romero stated that he wanted to focus on game design rather than monetizing players. The studio was stated to have three teams that would grow to 10 or 11 employees each.
The studio encountered financial trouble in 2012, with the game Ghost Recon Commander being cancelled only five months after launch. They also failed to fund a Kickstarter campaign for an "Old-School RPG". This resulted in one of the studio's development teams being laid off.
However, the studio remained solvent and continued developing games. By 2014, it had developed games for Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Zynga.
