Malam Sambat Ka'ban (born August 5, 1958 in Binjai) was the forestry minister of Indonesia from 2004-2009. On May 1, 2005, he was appointed as the chairman of the Crescent Star Party (PBB).

Ka'ban is the son of the S. Tarigan and the late merchant A.M. Kaban. He is married to Nurmala Dewi, and has seven children.

Ka'ban helped organize the Islamic Students Association (HMI) and became chairman of HMI Jakarta. He taught courses in the microeconomics of Sharia law.

Kaban is a member of the House of Representatives. He was a Crescent Star Party official before he was appointed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as Forestry Minister. In addition, he has been involved in human resource development at Jakarta Public Relations. He examined the potential of economic damage from the creation of Gunung Leuser National Park in 1992.

He was Chairman of the Economic Potential Weak research team in 1993, and a researcher at the Child Exploitation Strategy assessment study of the Joint Venture Company Pertamina in 1994.

He decided to enter politics before the 1997 elections. The United Development Party sought to nominate him as a candidate from West Java. He declined, but the initial period of reform under Yusril Ihza Mahendra formed the Crescent Star Party, which emphasized the importance of Islamic law. Kaban became secretary general of the Crescent Star Party, because he felt he had no experience. However, after receiving a request from Anwar Haryono (late), he took the position.
