Nisbets is the UK's leading mail order company for catering equipment and catering supplies. Based in Avonmouth, Bristol, Nisbets has expanded across multiple countries in Europe and Oceania.
Andrew Nisbet started the Nisbets business as we know it today, in 1983. The original idea came from a small business Peter Nisbet, Andrew’s father, bought in 1967. Peter Nisbet & Co Ltd operated in Sheene Road, Bedminster, Bristol and were catering equipment distributors and commercial kitchen installers. They also supplied knife sets to catering colleges in the South West. With his father’s support; it was this small part of the firm that inspired Andrew to set up Andrew Nisbet & Co Ltd, in 1983, now known as Nisbets. Supplying to colleges nationwide was seasonal and immediately Andrew developed an alternative trade for the quieter periods.
In 1987, Andrew Nisbet identified a potential gap in the catering equipment market, distributing to the trade through direct marketing and produced his first 4 page catalogue. This was the embryo of the 800+ page catalogues familiar to catering establishments today. As technology improved and the advent of the internet, the Nisbets website was launched in 2000.
The company now supplies restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, hotels, the professional chef, caterers, in fact anyone preparing and serving food to the public. With over 2000 employees and revenues of £300 million worldwide, Nisbets is considered Europe's largest supplier of catering equipment.
Nisbets supply kitchen products to trade and home users. Their product range covers everything from heavy duty items for bigger catering institutions such as warewashing machines, refrigerators and cooking machines, to smaller items such as beverage machines, blenders and food preparation machines. They also supply ranges of cutlery, crockery, glassware, buffet display, and barware, as well as essential kitchen supplies like knives, utensils, cookware, pastry items, clothing, and furniture.
