Venchi

imageVenchi

Venchi is an Italian gourmet chocolate manufacturer founded by chocolatier Silvano Venchi. After its establishment in Turin in early 1878, the company gained popularity throughout Italy with its Nougatine, small candies made of crushed and caramelized hazelnuts coated in dark chocolate. The company's manufacturing follows typically regional recipes.

For the production of the various chocolates, Venchi uses cocoa originating from plantations in Central/South America and Africa, distilled rum from the Caribbean, as well as natural vanilla. The Piedmontese hazelnuts are claimed to prevent the chocolate from tasting acidic.

In 2006 they started to make ice cream, sold by their shops all over the world. Their own network of 75 shops is based in Italy, United Kingdom, Romania, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Brazil, Turkey.

In October 2004, Venchi's Chocaviar was awarded the Vassoio d'Oro Award at the EuroChocolate festival in Perugia.

A novelty at the time, it started a trend.

The company features different gourmet chocolates at their Chicago and New York City boutiques.

Vosges offers flavors including Red Fire Toffee, Red Fire Spice, and a Oaxaca blend that have been praised as being "beautifully presented and made from the finest cacao and spices in the world." Huffington Post's reviewers also gave the chocolates high marks, noting the unusual offerings, such as Wild Tuscan Fennel Pollen, with Floral Anise, and Ginger plus Fresh Wasabi, with Black Sesame Seeds.

Vosges Haut-Chocolat blends the culinary diversities of the world with a passion for chocolate. An impressive array of choices, from truffles to bars to caramels, melds chocolate with international spice markets. E. Wedel

imageE. Wedel (Emil Wedel)

E. Wedel, known as Cadbury-Wedel Polska between 1999 and 2010, is a famousPolish confectionery company, producing many varieties of high-quality chocolates, cakes, and snacks. Wedel is also a well-recognized brand of candy in Poland, considered to be the "Polish national chocolate brand" in that market, and is the leading candy brand among Polish producers with about 14% of the Polish market in 2005 and 11.7% in 2007.

In June 2010 Kraft Foods Inc sold Wedel to Lotte Group, a South Korean-Japanese conglomerate, as part of their enforced divestment program of certain parts of the Cadbury plc which it acquired in March 2010.

Founded in 1851 by Karol Ernest Wedel (1813-1902), the company and its products became known in most of Central and Eastern Europe. The logo of the company is based on Karol Wedel's signature. His son Emil Albert Fryderyk Wedel (1841-1919) apprenticed in candy and chocolate factories in Western Europe before inheriting and expanding his father's business. His descendant Jan Wedel (d. 1960), the last member of the Wedel family to own the company, was considered "the Willy Wonka" of pre-war Poland. In 1894 the company moved its main factory from Szpitalna street in Warsaw. In 1934, during the time of the Great Depression, Jan Wedel opened a second factory in Praga, one of the most modern in the Second Polish Republic. The company was also known for its very generous social welfare policies. As one of the first in Europe, it had its own creche, kindergarten, hospital and cafeteria, and rewarded its best employees with no-interest housing loans; its model was highly acclaimed by the Polish Socialist Party. Hence prior to World War II, Wedel became a successful private company, with shops in London and Paris.

Whetstone Chocolates

Whetstone Chocolates in St. Augustine, Florida was founded in 1967 by Henry Whetstone and Esther Whetstone. The chocolate manufacturer merged with Oakleaf Confections of Toronto, Canada and Niagara Chocolates of Buffalo, New York to form SweetWorks in 2002 before selling all of its stock holdings in the umbrella company in 2004. At the same time it initiated a plan to close its national product line and lay off an estimated 41 employees, while continuing as a manufacturer and retailer in St. Augustine.

It started out as a family operation out of a home kitchen and a small ice cream store on St. George Street that remains in the historic business district of St. Augustine as Tedi’s Olde Tyme Ice Cream. The business grew into a factory operation until 2004.

According to Whetstone's website it has now "transitioned from making mass produced chocolates to making artisan chocolates".

Virginia Whetstone, daughter of the founders, said her father invented many of the production machines used to manufacture candy at the factory off State Road 312, "such as the machine which mixed chocolate and nuts into their nut cluster product". She said her father later sold the patent and said her brother also developed machines used on the production line and holds U.S. and foreign patents for designs involving chocolate and toy combinations. According to Hank Whetstone, "The chocolate and toy combination products represent an enormous opportunity and we intend to develop this area with partners in the industry."

Wickedly Welsh Chocolate

Wickedly Welsh Chocolate is a chocolate factory and visitor centre located in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The business makes its own chocolate at the premises. Visitors can also experience hands-on chocolate demonstrations, have a drink in the cafe and buy chocolates at the shop. The company's product is available at 25 stores in the local area including Oakwood Theme Park.

The factory was started by Mark Owen in April 2014, who suffers from type 1 diabetes. Consequently, the company's product range is diabetic-friendly. The business creates a range of chocolates, amongst which is a chocolate high in flavanols. Flavanols in cocoa can reduce blood pressure and many other risk factors for dementia and diabetes. Owen's wife Karen had previously worked on the nearby Pemberton's Chocolate Farm in Llanboidy and knew the appropriate machinery to purchase. The couple tried to take over running of the farm, which was on the market, but failed to do so, setting up their current premises instead.

In the eight months since opening, the factory catered for 20,000 visitors. The company runs a regular newsletter via email to around 15,000 subscribers with ideas for chocolate-based recipes. Local MP Stephen Crabb has praised the factory and business, calling it "a fantastic addition to Pembrokeshire's tourism offer". The company runs regular promotions for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Halloween. The company have produced a Willy Wonka-themed "Golden Ticket" campaign, with winners receiving tickets for both the factory and Oakwood Theme Park. For Easter 2015, the factory collaborated with Wales Online to provide a VIP tour of the factory as a competition prize. In November 2016 it was criticised on Twitter for welcoming UKIP AM Neil Hamilton and his wife.
